Hindu religion followers consider Kailash Tour as an important pilgrimage destination. After worshipping Holy Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal, Kailash Tour begins. The first place where we reach in a full moon day and stay a night in the trip is The Chhu Monastery which is nearby Lake Manasarovar. Early in the morning in the next day pilgrims take holy bath in the cold water of Lake Manasarovar, which believed to rinse all known or unknown sins, return to the camp and perform religious rituals with priest (Pujari). Darchen is the second destination so pilgrims take their day meal and proceed towards Darchen after performing these rituals. Lying at the bottom of Mount Kailash, Darchen is the last but extremely beautiful city while being on Kailash tour. The ultimate Kailash circumambulation of 53 kilo meters begins from here. 38 kilo meters of the total circumference should be walked on foot whereas other remaining way can be traveled by bus, jeep or van. But our journey is only up to Dirapuk where we spend our one night.
On the next day early our trip expands up to the bottom of Mount Kailash. It provides divine pleasure as of touching the feet of Lord Shiva. Two hours of walking from Dirapuk takes us to the West-North bottom of Mount Kailash. A religious trend of performing rituals worshipping on the divine feet of Lord Shiva, bowing the head down in front of god with great devotion is done by the pilgrims too. Pilgrims offer pure milk to lord Shiva after this. As per religious mythologies River Ganges is believed to have been formed from the Shiva's Jattas (Hair). Mount Kailash is believed to be the form of Lord Shiva and the water flowing from the snowy tip of Kailash Parvat have been described as river Ganges in several Hindu holy books. The Ganges like river flows from the West-North side bottom of Mount Kailash and the offered milk at the bottom of Mount Kailash gets mixed into this river so people do not cross this river. Hence it becomes the termination point of Kailash circumambulation. Pilgrims return to Darchen after completing entire rituals from here. We can also see the Yam Dwar (Gate of Heaven) either while proceeding or while returning back from Mount Kailash. This tour does not include a complete Kailash circumambulation. It is only up to Dirapuk from Kathmandu and a direct return back.
