Located in Kathmandu is the holy Pashupatinath Temple, one of the sacred temples of all Hindus. The temple is dedicated to Lord Pashupatinath who is the supreme God of all Hindus. Visiting the temple and paying Homage to the ‘Jyotir Lingam’ is believed to bring in a great boon and a successful life to mankind. Pashupatinath temple has 64 Lingams such as Kirtimukhi Bhairav, Unmatta Bhairav, Astamatrika, NavaGraha, Hanuman, Nandi, Trishul, Jaleshwor, Doleshwor, Basuki Naag, Gupteshwor, Lal Ganesh, Surya, Jalasahi Vishnu etc.

Shiva Ratri is the biggest festival observed every year at Pashupatinath Temple. Shiva Ratri literally means the night of Lord Shiva or the night he himself was created by his own divine grace. This auspicious festival falls on the thirteen or fourteenth day of the waning moon in the month of (B.S. 25 Falgun 2024) 08 March 2024. Hindus flock to the temple from far and wide to celebrate this day with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. Devotees keep vigil, chant prayers, fast, do yoga, meditate or recite prayers to Shiva.
