Saga Dawa festival from Lhasa fallow by Buddhist calendar every year, and Buddhist doctrine regard Saga Dawa as one of the most important religious festivals in Tibetan history. It is celebrated enthusiastically throughout Tibet on the full moon day in April, following the Tibetan Lunar Calendar, to commemorate the day on which Lord Buddha attained Nirvana. During this festival, everyone recites the prayers and plays the holy beads to appease the supreme gods. It is believed that one will receive good merits for good actions during this festival, and so Tibetans are conscious of their good deeds during this festival. During the same period, evil deeds are multiplied as well.
The most important and interesting event of this festival is the replacement of the "Tarboche" Flagpole, the famous huge pole of many small prayers flags. It takes place under the guidance of the Buddhist priest Lama. A flagpole erected upright is considered lucky, and one not erected straight is considered unlucky. There are hundreds of Tibetans who gather around with small prayers flags every year to contribute to a huge single flagpole. It is a fascinating culture you must not miss if you are in Tibet during Saga Dawa Festival to witness the old flagpole being brought down and the new one being erected in the same spot. Saga Dawa Festival brings Tibetans together regardless of class, religion, caste, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, or gender, because it is the festival that unites people regardless of class, religion, caste, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, or gender. Join us in celebrating Saga Dawa Festival at Tibet to learn more about the Tibetan cultural values and assumptions. Your pleasant journey can be arranged by Monterosa Treks and Expedition Pvt. Ltd.
